Legal Aid

Angell & Co is part of the Community Legal Service (CLS), which brings together legal aid solicitors and others offering legal advice and help. We were one of the first companies in the West to win 'franchise' status from the Legal Services Commission, a reward for the quality of our family law services.

There are three ways in which you may receive legal aid.

Legal Help provides initial advice and assistance with any legal problem. This level of service covers work previously carried out under the advice and assistance or "green form" scheme.

Help at Court allows for somebody (a solicitor or adviser) to speak on your behalf at certain court hearings, without formally acting for you in the whole proceedings.

Approved Family Help provides help in a family dispute, including assistance in resolving that dispute through negotiation or otherwise.

Your entitlement to legal aid will depend on your personal financial situation. As a part of the CLS, Angell & Co can apply for legal aid on your behalf. You cannot apply for legal aid directly to the CLS. For an indication of whether you may be entitled to legal aid, there is a calculator on the CLS website.

In order to help us to decide whether or not you are entitled to legal aid, you must bring evidence of means to your first interview. (payslip or proof of benifits received + proof of capital + proof of housing cost + childcare cost)
